Well Read Company Book Reviews: The Little Prince

We’re so excited to be introducing a new design to our collection: The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. This classic French novella was first published in 1943, exploring the heartfelt themes of loneliness, friendship, love and loss. The Little Prince is a unique novel that spans between both children's and adult literature, in fact early critics were confused as to how to classify it. Although this is the magic of this beautiful story: it is able to look at human nature in a way that is accessible to everyone.

The Little Prince follows the story of a small boy from a tiny planet, who travels the universe seeking wisdom. The narrator is a pilot whose plane crashes in the Sahara Desert, and after initial despair he is met by the prince, who teaches him about the small-mindedness of adults. Through poetic fables and similes, the prince explains how children hold all the wisdom in the world, and adults would do well to be more like them. Looking beyond the surface of things and seeking true meaning is a timeless message that still charms readers today.

“The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.

The Little Prince remains one of the best-selling books in history; it has been translated into over 505 different languages, making it the second most translated work ever (after the Bible). Such a simple and unique story charms generations of readers again and again, transforming philosophical musings on how we see the world into an entertaining story that both children and adults can appreciate. We’re honoured to be adding it to our collection! Our design is based on the original artworks of Saint-Exupéry, featuring the prince standing on his home planet against a space-backdrop.  All the products in our The Little Prince range make perfect bookworm gifts!

“All grown-ups were once children... but only few of them remember it.”
