Mothers Day Reads

Mothers Day Reads

Whilst Mothers Day has already passed for us in the UK, the majority of the world still has this wonderful day to look forward to. To celebrate all things maternal and the strength of motherhood, we thought we’d compile our three favourite books surrounding the themes of motherhood.

Little Fires Everywhere - Celeste Ng

This eye-opening book asks how far we’d go for our children, as well as how much we can allow our children to distract us from our own pasts. It perfectly balances humour and lightness with a sad, darker truth. A must-read for looking at the complex ways mothers protect their children.

After Birth - Elisa Albert

This raw, emotive novel takes a look at how young single mothers are expected to find their way back to themselves after a traumatic birth. It deals with female friendships, the complexities of family and the tangle of emotions that new motherhood brings. Funny, visceral and honest, it gives an unapologetic view of true parenting.

Girl, Woman, Other - Bernardine Evaristo

Bernardine Evaristo’s Booker Prize-winning novel is about many mothers, mother figures, daughters and daughter figures. The novel takes an intimate look at relationships between all women from all roles in life, and asks the question of what it means to be a black woman today.
